Wild requests! The Weirdest Things Tourists Ask in Montana

Dear tourists,

Soon many of you will be heading to our beloved Montana. So it’s time for our annual Public Announcement What not to do when visiting Montana.

Let me first say Welcome. Here in Montana we have a breathtaking landscape filled with snow-capped mountains, crystal clear lakes, rivers and streams, and an abundance of outdoor activities that you will find in very few places in this great country of ours.

I believe you will find most Montana residents friendly and helpful. This is not our first rodeo and we are used to the millions who visit every year. We understand that we live in a very special place and it is no surprise that you want to go there.

However, we ask that you be respectful and courteous to shopkeepers, guides, wait staff and locals during your stay. There are a few things you should know if you plan to visit Montana, especially if you plan to visit Glacier National Park or Yellowstone National Park.

I bring this up because I came across a recent article that reminded me that not everyone is familiar with our state or the dangers that exist here. A recent complaint to the Yellowstone National Park Lodges reminds us that some people should probably stay away.

According to the website Unofficial networks, a visitor to Yellowstone had a strange request. Although they seemed to enjoy their adventure in the park, they did have one request. They would like to see more “trained grizzly bears.”

At first it seems like a joke, except that several encounters with tourists every year leave most Montanans shaking their heads. So in case you didn’t know, the animals you encounter in the wild are just that: wild. They should not be tampered with, petted or enticed in any way. You are endangering your life if you do the above.

If you want to see animals up close and personal, you should probably visit a zoo.
