Vernon Parish School Board joins lawsuit blocking changes to Title IX

VERNON PARISH, La. (KPLC) – The Vernon Parish School Board is joining the state’s lawsuit against the recent changes to Title IX.

On May 2, the school board voted 11-0 to oppose the new federal revisions to Title IX, which take effect on August 1. The revisions guarantee LGBTQ students legal protection against discrimination based on, among other things, sex or gender identity.

Vernon Parish is now part of a growing list of school boards across the state looking to join the lawsuit.

The school board wrote that it believes the changes will “increase obligations, compliance costs and liability risks” and will be “detrimental to students, parents and employees.”
