Huber placed 7th at the National Speech Tournament – Park Rapids Enterprise

Two members of the Park Rapids speech team returned covered in glory from the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions, May 9-12 in Bellevue, Neb.

Nora Huber and Reese Hanson competed against 200 other students in the dramatic interpretation category. Hanson reached the quarterfinals and Huber reached the semifinals and finished seventh nationally.

According to speech coach Tanya Miller, the students competed in four preliminary rounds, with the top 60 advancing to the eight-finals, the top 30 advancing to the quarterfinals, the top 12 advancing to the semifinals and the top six advancing to the finals.

“So proud of these two!” said Molenaar. “Now we are preparing for the National Speech and Debate Association in Iowa in June. Wish them the best of luck!”

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under the byline “staff.” Often the byline “staff” is used when rewriting basic news briefs that come from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and require little or no reporting. Sometimes this byline is used when a news story contains multiple authors or when the story is formed by merging previously reported news from different sources. If outside sources are used, this will be noted in the story.
