Recent scorching temperatures in Thailand and Asia have led to a rise in sea surface temperatures. Unfortunately, this increase in temperature has a negative effect on coral reefs, a phenomenon known as coral bleaching. The coral, stressed by the warmer water, pushes out the algae that live in it, turning the coral white and stunting their growth.

Thailand is a leader in coral reef conservation and has taken decisive action to protect these vital ecosystems. In response to the threat of coral bleaching, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation (DNP) has announced a temporary closure of Pling Island and surrounding reefs in Sirinart National Park.

The DNP is not just focusing on Pling Island. They also keep a close eye on other national parks, including Ko Chang, Ko Sametand several islands, for signs of coral bleaching. This proactive approach ensures the health of coral reefs throughout Thailand.
