Schools were instructed to hold quarterly management committee meetings

Staff reporter

Guwahati: As of now, every government and provincial school in the state must hold quarterly School Management Committee (SMC) meetings.

This decision was taken following an instruction from the central Ministry of Education (MoE) on holding quarterly School Management Committee (SMC) meetings and encouraging nominated parents to attend the SMC meetings regularly. The Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA) has, therefore, issued instructions for organizing such SMC meetings in every quarter of the year.

The issues to be discussed during the quarterly SMC meetings include the issue of receipt of free textbooks and free uniforms by the students, performance of students at Gunotsav, monitoring of attendance of students and teachers, timely and properly use of various exchanges, payment of electricity bills. , evaluation of the provision of clean drinking water and proper sanitation in the schools, evaluation of the work completed under the school development plan, preparation of future action plans, monitoring of the school environment, Swachhta, and implementation of PM-POSHAN, etc .

Previous SMC meetings were held every month as per a state SMC notification. However, as directed by the MoE, emphasis should now be placed on the effective conduct of SMC meetings every quarter.

The SSA Mission Director has sent a letter to all District Mission Coordinators regarding the conduct of such quarterly meetings. The letter directs all schools under their jurisdiction to hold quarterly SMC meetings as per the agenda and utilize the resources provided for such quarterly meetings. The minutes of the meeting must be properly recorded in the SMC meeting register. It also states that the minutes and photos of the meetings should be uploaded to SSA’s WhatsApp group and also sent by email.

The letter also directs all District Mission Coordinators to instruct Cluster Resource Center Coordinators (CRCCs) of their respective districts to attend the quarterly SMC meeting of the schools in their respective clusters without fail. The CRCC involved will be primarily responsible for the smooth running of the meeting, the letter said.

It is further stated that the first quarterly SMC meeting should be organized in the 3rd or 4th week of June 2024. The second should be organized in the 3rd or 4th week of September. The third SMC meeting should take place in the third or fourth week of December, and the fourth should take place in the second or third week of March 2025.
