The Northampton County Veterans Affairs office is urging residents to remember the importance of Memorial Day, a time for remembering and honoring those who died defending the United States.

A number of municipalities and organizations across the area will host celebrations this weekend, some of which were highlighted in a province news release on Monday.

Among the plans are a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, May 26, at 6 p.m. at the Williams Township Municipal Building, 655 Cider Press Road and the 17th annual Memorial Day Commemoration at SteelStacks in Bethlehem.

This year’s commemoration will transform the campus into a living memorial honoring hometown heroes from Saturday, May 25 through Sunday, July 14.

“ArtsQuest will honor men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country during a community event on Monday, May 27 at 3 p.m.,” the release said. “The event will feature speaker Northampton County Executive Lamont G. McClure on the Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks stage with ‘A Time to Remember’ honoring the Lehigh Valley’s fallen soldiers from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.”

The Hellertown American Legion Post 397 also holds an annual Memorial Day service at Union Cemetery in Hellertown. This year’s ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 26 at 2:00 PM (rain or shine) at the cemetery at 85 Main Street. There is a Facebook event for anyone interested or planning to attend.
