North Orange County Community College District will receive $2.6 million to provide scholarships through the Hire UP pilot program

The North Orange County Community College District is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) as one of ten districts in the state to receive funding for the Hire UP Pilot Program. Students from both Cypress College and Fullerton College receive stipends.

The Hire UP program is designed to create more accessible and equitable educational opportunities for formerly incarcerated students and will allocate $2.6 million to NOCCCD to distribute to eligible applicants. This funding will help them cover the real costs of attending university and gain clear access to diploma programs and workforce support.

“We are excited to participate in this crucial program,” said Dr. Cynthia Olivo, president of Fullerton College. “This is more than just financial help. This will enable our college to empower our students and help them overcome challenges that would otherwise derail their educational goals.”

These funds will benefit Cypress College and Fullerton College students who are part of the Rising Scholars Network, are current participants in California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs), or are former foster youth. Qualified students receive financial support in the form of regular stipends based on their enrollment hours.
