A 24-year-old resident of The Villages was arrested after allegedly skipping his bar bill at Cody’s Original Roadhouse in Brownwood.

Devin Skehan, who lists an address in the village of Bradford, charged Cody’s with a bar bill of $34.24 on Friday and then left on foot without paying, according to a Wildwood police arrest report. Cody’s management contacted police.

An officer spotted Skehan “stumbling” near Brownwood Boulevard and Traverse Trail. Skehan said he had “a few drinks” at Brownwood and was on his way to the Brownwood Hotel & Spa. The officer asked the Connecticut resident if he was “too drunk” to remember leaving Cody’s without paying his bill.

“Maybe,” Skehan replied.

He added that he had stopped “at several locations” in Brownwood but “did not remember leaving without paying.”

Cody’s provided police with video surveillance of the incident.

Skehan was arrested on charges of defrauding a restaurant operator. He was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $150 bond.
