Village of former NC MP in Bandipora gives voice to young leadership – Rising Kashmir

Bandipora, May 20: Long queues were observed at the Naidkhai Sonawari assembly area of Bandipora, a village of former MP and senior National Conference leader Mohammad Akbar Lone. Locals said they voted for development and young leadership so that their voices can be heard.
Two polling stations were set up at Government Higher Secondary School Naidkhai.
Shakir Ahmad, who cast his vote early in the morning, said Naidkhai deserves better facilities. “We are looking for new, dynamic leadership to effectively address our concerns. Voting today is our chance to ensure our voice counts in the decisions that shape the future of our community,” he said.
Another young voter, Shahid Ahmad, said he was voting for development. He said there is a need for better roads and schools in the area. “I want leaders who understand our struggles and can create real change. It’s time for new faces and fresh ideas. Our voices matter, and we need leaders to listen,” he added.
Shahid said despite the village’s good leadership in parliament, many issues in the village remained unresolved. “Our village needs better healthcare and employment. We need leaders who can bridge the gap between generations and truly represent our aspirations for a better future,” he added.
Another local woman, Sara Ali, said there has been no development in the area for the past 70 years. “It’s time we hand the reins of power to new faces, unsullied by the mistakes of the past,” she said. “These new leaders can give voice to the aspirations of Kashmiris and advocate for the needs of our region at the national level. We must empower them to defend the cause of Kashmir with strength and determination.”
Sara said among the four main political candidates, there are many young faces contesting for Baramulla PC. It is great that younger leaders are representing us in parliament, rather than just older leaders, she added.
Akbar Lone hails from Naidkhai village and has held this seat for many years. He has been involved in politics for almost five decades.
