Memorial Day in Plainfield marks the return of the American Legion Parade

PLAINFIELD, IL – Another Memorial Day is coming, which means another American Legion Marne Post 13 parade will take to the streets of downtown Plainfield.

The annual Memorial Day Parade departs May 27 at 10:45 a.m. from Ira Jones Middle School, 15320 S. Wallin Drive. The procession heads east on Ottawa Street, enters Settlers’ Park near the intersection of Van Dyke Road and Ottawa Street and continues through the park, ending at the monument within.


The parade will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony, a gun salute and band performances.

To make way for the event, some surrounding roads will be closed around 10:30 a.m. and reopened when the parade reaches the monument, expected around 11 a.m., police said.

Van Dyke Road at Ottawa Street

Paradegoers can park at Village Hall, along Village Center Drive, at Ira Jones Middle School and on Van Dyke Road south of Ottawa Street. Disabled parking will be available in the village hall grounds.
