Quebec inmate injured in ‘severe attack’ on Port-Cartier Institution

MONTREAL — Correctional Service Canada says an inmate was injured in what it calls a major attack at the Port-Cartier Institute on Quebec’s north coast.

MONTREAL — Correctional Service Canada says an inmate was injured in what it calls a major attack at the Port-Cartier Institute on Quebec’s north coast.

The federal agency says the injured inmate was taken to the hospital for treatment.

It says the attacker has been identified and appropriate action has been taken, but does not elaborate.

Quebec provincial police are also investigating the alleged attack, which took place on Sunday.

Correctional Service Canada says safety is its priority and it will review the circumstances surrounding the attack to prevent future incidents.

Port-Cartier Institution is a maximum security federal prison located approximately 600 kilometers northeast of Quebec City.
