WHY? More and more tourists behave badly towards wild animals

Why are people so crazy in Yellowstone National Park?

What makes Yellowstone National Park so crazy? Every week, or at least monthly, during tourist season we see people doing things that a respectable Montanan would NEVER do, like getting drunk and kicking a bison. It hasn’t even been a month since I wrote that article. Let yourself be carried away by the bison duo from Idaho.

Check out this gem I happened to come across on Instagram today:

It appears this happened around Saturday, May 18, 2024. I’m with the guy who said, “the bison are really letting me down this year.”

What are these people thinking in the National Park?

Yellowstone National Park has this on their website:

  • Never approach wild animals
The animals in Yellowstone are wild and unpredictable, no matter how calm they seem. The safest (and often best) view of wildlife is from a car. Always stay at least 300 feet (91 meters) from bears and wolves, and at least 75 feet (23 meters) from all other animals, including bison and elk.
  • Stick to boardwalks and trails in thermal areas
Hot springs have injured or killed more people in Yellowstone than any other natural phenomenon. Keep your children close and don’t let them run.
  • Never feed wild animals
Animals that become dependent on human food can become aggressive toward humans and must be killed. Keep all food, trash, and other smelly items tucked away when not in use.
  • Never park on the road or block traffic
Use retractable shutters to view wildlife and let other cars pass. Stay with your vehicle if you encounter a wildlife jam.

We cannot guarantee your safety in Yellowstone, but these concepts will help you avoid the most common accidents.”

This is a direct quote copied from the Yellowstone National Park website. Very easy. WHAT DO PEOPLE DON’T GET?
