AP Chambers is looking to establish international cargo and cold storage facilities at Gannavaram Airport

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) has welcomed Air India’s announcement that it will launch a direct flight between Vijayawada and Mumbai.

In this context, the chambers here have aimed to set up an international air freight and cold storage facility.

AP Chambers president Potluri Bhaskara Rao said that the AP Chambers has been relentlessly giving suggestions to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Vijayawada airport authorities for development of the airport and improvement of flight connectivity between Vijayawada and other major destinations.

“We had earlier made representations to various airlines like Air India, Indigo and Akasa Air to connect Vijayawada to key cities in the country. There has been a long-standing demand for a direct flight between Vijayawada and Mumbai. AP Chambers has submitted representations to a number of airlines to facilitate this,” Rao said.

He also thanked Air India for scheduling a Boeing flight from Vijayawada to Hyderabad in the morning, which was helpful for the flyers from Vijayawada.

Bhasakara Rao stated that there is a high demand for starting an international cargo facility at Vijayawada airport as large quantities of perishable goods are being exported from the region. “This will be a boon for the region’s fresh produce exporters. AP Chambers hopes this will become a reality soon,” he said.
