Nassau fight with sharp object sends 2 men to hospital: police

WEST HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Two men were arrested early Monday and charged in connection with an assault in West Hempstead, Nassau police say.

Just before 1 a.m., a person was stabbed outside a business on Hempstead Avenue, authorities said.


Investigation revealed that Anthony Grant, 33, of Queens, and Michael Laing, 32, of Queens, were involved in a verbal and physical altercation inside Boom VIP Events, police said.

As the argument escalated, Grant struck Laing in the neck and torso with a sharp object. Laing responded by hitting Grant in the left abdomen and buttocks with the same object, police said.

Grant and Laing were taken to nearby hospitals and taken into custody. They are both in stable condition.

They each face one count of second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of second-degree harassment.

Laing was due to be arraigned on Monday, while Grant will be arraigned when medically practicable.
